How To Solve Common PlayStation 4 Problems

The PlayStation 4 is now nearly a seven-year old console. It continues to perform fairly well given how long it has been around. Although, there are still some problems that plague the system to this day and sometimes render it useless. The purpose of this article is to address these issues and give you a solution to the problems you are having so you can continue to play the games you love and potentially start a gaming blog just like this in the near future.

One of the most common PS4 problem that can affect your console is the blinking blue indicator light error. On normal operating PS4 consoles, once you power them on there is a indicator light on the top of the console that will pulse to blue before turning white and staying white throughout the duration of the time you spend playing the system. On a defective PS4, instead of the console light going from blue to white it just pulses blue continuously which means a major problem has occurred. When this happens your PS4 will not display any signal to the T.V.

PS4 Indicator Light: This is a light on the top of the console that is able to display a range of different colors. It is used to display system status information to the user in order to troubleshoot problems.

There are a couple ways to solve this problem which are:

1.       Investigate if the HDMI ports are damaged or not plugged in all the way

If the HDMI port looks okay, then it could be a bad HDMI cable. Test other HDMI cables to see if this solves your problem. If it doesn’t move on to the remaining tests.

2.       Check out the power supply

you can do this by performing a complete shut down of your console by holding the power button for at least 10 seconds. At this point you should hear two continuous beeps which means the console is fully off. After that, disconnect the Power cord from the wall outlet and check to see if the connector or power cord is damaged. If this does not solve your problem, then continue trying other tests.

3.     Check to see if the hard drive is damaged or malfunctioning

Like before, make sure your PS4 is completely turned off, then remove the power cord from the input on the console and from the wall outlet. Once done, slide open the HDD cover on the top of the console to expose the hard drive. Take the hard drive out and inspect it for any damage and make sure it is inserted properly in the hard drive bay.

4.       Perform a reset of the controller

Press and hold down the PlayStation logo button on your controller and wait until the system light turns an amber color. Then continue pressing the button again and the light should turn to white on the PS4 console and boot straight up the dashboard.

-        Personally, I have had this issue before, and I thought my console was broken but what solved my problem was checking out the power supply. It turned out that I had not inserted the power cord into the back of my console fully enough. One I reinserted the power cord my PS4 booted up and worked properly.

Another problem that PlayStation 4 systems can face is a blinking red indicator light error. Once you power on the system, the indicator light at the top will flash red repeatedly while powering off and make three beeping noises. I have personally never had this problem before but there are a few ways to troubleshoot and solve this problem.

1.       Give the system time to cool down.

According to Sony, this problem typically arises when the console overheats from excessive use. Therefore, power the console completely off by holding down the power button and disconnect the power cord from the console. Do not power on the console for at least 3-5 hours and then try powering it on again.

2.       Make sure there are no items obstructing the airflow of the system.                                                                                                                                                                                                                         If giving the system time to cool down resolves your problem at first but it continues occurring in the future, then you may not be giving the PS4 enough space for enough airflow. You should refrain from placing the console on carpet, because the dust from it may go inside your system and clog the air vents. A good rule of thumb that I follow and works well for me is keeping my PS4 at least 3 feet from the nearest wall on each side in order to minimize the chance of suffocating my system. Overall, if you maintain enough airflow then this problem will not occur.

The third common problem that PS4 systems can have is that the game disc gets stuck inside your console and the eject button doesn’t eject the disc. I have had this issue on my PlayStation 3 console in the past and I had to take it to a repair shop in order to retrieve my $60 game. There are a few solutions that should solve this problem.

1.       Perform a power cycle of the console

* A "power cycle" is a term used when you completely turn off your electronic device, wait a couple minutes and then turn the device back on.

To do this, power off the console completely and disconnect every cord connected. Then, hold down the power button for at least 45 seconds. After doing this, let it rest for about 3 minutes and reinsert all the cables and power on the system again. The disc should come out once the system fully powers back on.

2.       Try placing the console in a vertical orientation

The game inside the console can get stuck inside the disc drive when the console is laying horizontal. Placing it vertically can help dislodge it due to gravity helping push out the disc.

3.        Attempt to manually eject the disc

If both these methods do not work, then manually removing the disc yourself will solve the problem. you will need to power off the console completely and remove all the cables to the console. After you do this, slide off the PS4s’ front panel in order to expose the disc drive. With the disc drive exposed carefully follow the instructions that are printed on the PlayStation website.

In conclusion, I presented to you a list of a few common PS4 problems that can occur and how to solve these problems. I hope that this helps a lot and is beneficial to you.
